Yet again, Facebook faces another takedown in its add on online game Scrabulous. The social network has recently disabled access to the game. Scrabulous is in hot water with Mattel because the game closely resembles the classic game Scrabble which is published and ditributed by Mattel in all the countries aside from the US and Canada. The online access was first disabled in the United States and Canada. It is to note that, the rights for the classic board game Scrabble are owned by two big companies. Hasbro and Mattel. Hasbro handles North America and Mattel, elsewhere in the entire globe. It was Mattel’s complaint that forced Facebook to disable Scrabulous’ access in the network. Expectedly, Mattel has lodged a complaint and filed a lawsuit against Scrabulous creators in India. This is where the online game is based. They are charging the two brothers Rajat and Jayant Agarwalla with copyright and trademark infringement. Up until the court’s decision is handed down, the access of the game in India has remained.
