VoIP – Bot net Haven
Seems the lowly bot net is shifting focus to VoIP software that it manages to hijack and use as propagation method as well as for stealing information. Botnets have long been pursued and have even been found to exist on stand-alone units that have been running continuously for more that 10 years. These malware can do anything from hijacking the victim computer or like more traditional malware, they cam corrupt data, steal it and send it to their makers for criminal activity use.
The much famed conficker worm has been under study fro quite sometime and even with the whole community searching for the perpetrators, none have been successful at catching them and shutting down their massive network that involves over 2 million computers. They have dissected the worm using some very keen tools that have allowed them to isolate the zero hour or the date of activation, which is April 1 – April Fool’s day. they have also found one connection to link to somewhere in Korea where some data was sent but that still proves to be a very wide area for a confirmed search for the makers of the most successful malware yet.
