It is simply astounding how simple, yet so effective a computer mouse is. To think that it took a long while before the mouse became part of everyday computer life. Originally conceived in the 1960s, twenty years will have passed before the mouse became what it is today. A well utilized tool in computing. It is understandable that this unique tool was never given the attention in the early days due to the fact that there was no need for computer to use pointing devices because it used basic interfaces like teletype machines to enter data. Full screen editors were the first machines to take advantage of the cursor keys, thus the need for users to point. It’s funny, how they used light pens, as a pointing device for many years. followed by graphics tablets and even joysticks. None of this took off as the standard for pointing. First to use the mouse is Mac. And this was when the mouse finally took off . A good thing about is that it is inexpensive and it requires a limited amount of space in your desktop. The release of Windows 3.1 made graphical user interface a standard and the mouse quickly became the standard of PC Human Interface.
