It is possible to copy files from a suspected laptop or computer with a special tool the Microsoft Corp. has provided law enforcement people access to and it uses publicly available programs that are combined to produce a sort of way to obtain information from a computer in as little as 10 to 15 minutes. It used to take a couple of hours to do all the steps necessary to achieve the same results but putting them all together and placing them in something as fast as a flash drive/thumb drive is better for you plug it in, it does its magic and its out again. That information was released by Microsoft themselves as they move to aid the government in efforts to secure vital information on suspected whoever they are. That does not discuss in depth if their key (the flash drive) would work on the newer and more robust 128 to 256 AES encryption their Vista uses.
